Media Center Policies

MEDIA CENTER EXPECTATIONS

  • The library is a food free zone.
  • Students are asked to demonstrate respectful behavior by talking quietly and avoiding disruptive behaviors while in the library. 
  • Please leave furniture where it is and/or return it to its place if it has been moved with approval from the library staff. 

PASS POLICIES

Note: The library is closed during Bobcat Block. 

Study Hall: 
  • Students go to their study hall for attendance and ask their teacher for permission to go to the library.  

  • Students use SmartPass to put in a pass request within 10 minutes of the beginning of the period.

  • The SmartPass requires the teacher’s name & reason for the visit (i.e. homework, reading, etc…).

  • The SmartPass is approved remotely by library staff and automatically starts. 

  • Students must wait for the start of the SmartPass before traveling directly to the library.

  • Once in the library, students sign in and library staff end the SmartPass.

  • While in the library, students ask permission to leave the room and obtain a SmartPass from library staff.

  • Students return to their regularly scheduled class on time.


Lock out/Early Release:  
  • Students go to the cafeteria, sign in, stay, and leave from the cafeteria. 

  • There are no SmartPasses for lock-out at this time.

Lunch Waves: 
  • No food is permitted in the library.

  • Students submit a SmartPass Request from location Cafeteria to Library Media C to stay in the library during their lunch period. If they are coming directly from a class, students still use Cafeteria as their location. There are limited spots available.

  • The SmartPass is approved remotely by library staff and automatically starts.

  • Students must wait for the start of the SmartPass before traveling directly to the library.

  • Students must arrive within the first 10 minutes of the beginning of their lunch period.

  • Students ask library staff to end their SmartPass and sign in upon arrival.

  • While in the library, students ask permission to leave the room and obtain a SmartPass from library staff.

  • Students return to their regularly scheduled class on time.


From Class:
  • Teacher calls the library, ext. 3381 library main desk, to send students.

  • Teacher or student issues a SmartPass to the Library Media C.  

  • The SmartPass requires the teacher’s name & reason for the visit (i.e. video recording, printing, book check out, etc…).

  • Students ask library staff to end their SmartPass and sign in upon arrival.

  • While in the library, students ask permission to leave the room and obtain a SmartPass from library staff.

  • Students return to their regularly scheduled class on time.


Print Station:
  • Printing requires library staff assistance and can take up to 10 minutes. Student should have their print ready before visiting the library.

  • Teacher calls the library, ext. 3381 library main desk, for student printing.

  • Teacher or student issues a one-way SmartPass to the Library Media C.  

  • The SmartPass includes the teacher’s name & reason for the visit (i.e. printing, print station).

  • Students ask library staff to end their SmartPass and sign in upon arrival.

  • Students obtain a SmartPass from library staff and return to their regularly scheduled class on time.


Chromebook Help Desk:
  • Teacher sends a student with a round trip SmartPass to Library Media C.  

  • Library staff address the Chromebook issue.

  • Library staff issues a SmartPass (if necessary) for the student to return to their regularly scheduled class.


Chromebook & Cell Phone Charging:
  • Students may use locked charging lockers for their devices.  The library staff has a master key if a code is forgotten. A camera records the area.  

  • Teacher sends the student with a round trip SmartPass to Library Media C

  • The SmartPass includes the teacher’s name & reason for the visit (i.e. charging locker).

  • The student returns to their regularly scheduled class. 

Book Borrowing Policies:
  • Students may check out up to 5 print items for a loan period of 4 weeks (20 school days).
  • Students can renew items as many times as needed as long as they aren't on hold. 
  • Students wishing to renew overdue items must bring them into the library to be renewed.
  • Audio/Visual Equipment may be checked out overnight or as determined by the library staff.
Late/Lost Items:
  • Overdue fines will no longer be charged.
  • Materials that are 30 days or more overdue are considered lost and the student will be charged the replacement cost for the materials.
  • Students will receive an overdue notice reminding them to return the overdue items before they receive a bill.
  • Outstanding debts not paid will be submitted to the office as a financial obligation.
  • If the overdue materials are returned, there will be no cost to the student.
Damaged Items: 
  • Students who have damaged library materials must pay the replacement cost.
  • Students’ library borrowing privileges will be suspended until either the materials are returned or until all library debts are cleared.

MAKERSPACE POLICIES & EXPECTATIONS

  • Students may utilize the MakerSpace and its materials before school, during the school day, and after school as long as it's not being used by a class. 
  • Students are expected to put materials back where they found them, and to clean up their work space before they leave.
