Summer Reading Selections

Summer Reading Selections
Posted on 05/03/2018

Each summer, the SWHS English Language/Arts department provides students with a reading assignment. The purpose of summer reading is to encourage students to:

  • Engage in ongoing reading and learning;
  • Explore new genres and authors;
  • Read for a purpose; and
  • Build community.

This year, all students and staff are being offered the chance to choose from a carefully crafted list of titles. These titles have been reviewed and selected by a committee of parents, students and teachers. The 2018 summer reading selections have been shared with students in their English classes, and each student has been asked to complete a survey indicating the book he/she wants to read.

Over the summer, students will be required to read the book they selected. At the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year, all students should come prepared to discuss their book with a group of students and staff who selected the same title.
